Voorjaar in West-Friesland

From early April to mid-May - the period depends a bit on the weather - part of Noord-Holland turns into a beautiful sea of flowers. Not far from Holiday Park Het Grootslag you can find some vast bulb-growing areas. First the crocus- and daffodil fields start to bloom and then somewhere around the second week of april the showstoppers appear: tulip fields in the most beautiful colors!

Cycling routes along the bulb fields in West Friesland

You can easily explore this area by bicycle. One of the most beautiful routes, the West Frisian bulb route starts near our park, in Wervershoof, and takes you along the IJsselmeer coast to Medemblik. Then you turn off into the country and via a number of quaint villages you return to Wervershoof.
Another recommended route is the one that starts in picturesque Hoorn with its rich 17th century history. The first half goes along the IJsselmeerdijk, then you turn towards the bulb fields and fruit growing areas east of Hoorn, to return to Hoorn via an old corn mill.

With the steam train along the bulb fields

In spring, you can also ride the steam streetcar along the West Frisian tulip fields. On the site of the museum steam streetcar you can read more about the various unique excursion possibilities.

Flower paradise

A little further away, in the top of  our province North Holland, between Anna Paulowna and Breezand, you can visit the largest flower bulb growing area in the world. In Anna Paulowna, you will also find the Polder Garden. This “little Keukenhof” can be visited free of charge and is definitely worth your time if you have planned a day trip among the flowers.

Do you feel like coming to admire the floral splendor of North Holland? Quickly choose your favorite bungalow or chalet here and come enjoy a well-deserved vacation!
