Enkhuizen is beautifully located on both the IJsselmeer and the Markermeer and is famously known as "Haringstad" due to its rich history in herring fishing. If you're eager to taste some delicious herring, the Zuiderzeemuseum in Enkhuizen is the place to be. Aside from herring tasting, the museum offers a wealth of activities for visitors of all ages. On the museum grounds, you'll find various exhibitions, including the traveling exhibition "Leer van Vis." In addition to the exhibitions, the different types of houses and old-fashioned shops each tell their own stories about the past. You can also test your skills in the outdoor part of the museum, where you can experience an evacuation game to see how well you're prepared for a flood.
The museum also features eel smokers, who are waiting for you on the dike, surrounded by fishing nets!
