This historic VOC city is about a 20-minute bike ride from Vakantiepark Het Grootslag and can also be easily reached by car. If you bike from Het Grootslag to Hoorn, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the IJsselmeer along the dike, and you can bike back through the West Frisian villages.
Our Facilities
At Vakantiepark Het Grootslag, you can enjoy a weekend getaway, a midweek, or a stay of one or more weeks near Hoorn. There’s plenty to do at the park! Our guests can enjoy facilities such as an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, and a mini-golf course. Not only is the park located near Hoorn, but it’s also in a peaceful area perfect for scenic walks and bike rides. The nearby cities of Enkhuizen and Alkmaar are also just a short distance away.
Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy fishing for carp and bream in the park's internal waters. Children will love pony rides at our pony ranch, playing in the playground with a bouncy castle, or cuddling with goats and rabbits in the petting zoo. Of course, free Wi-Fi is available in all our holiday homes.
There are various restaurants, a cozy bar with a bowling alley, and between April and October, we also have a supermarket on-site. The City of Hoorn
Hoorn, the former VOC city, offers something for everyone! Hoorn is known for its beautiful 17th-century buildings, its bustling marina, and its many shops for a fun shopping spree. After a shopping trip, visit the Roode Steen square, located at the end of the main shopping street, Grote Noord. This lively square is home to many restaurants and cafés with large terraces. In the evening, it becomes the city’s nightlife hub with several dance cafés and pubs. Outside the city center, you can also find a casino and a cinema for a fun evening out.
On Roode Steen, you can also visit the West-Fries Museum, where you’ll be taken back in time to the 17th century in Hoorn and West Friesland. Near Hoorn’s train station, you can board the museum steam train, which takes you from Hoorn to Medemblik over a historic railway that dates back to 1887. From there, you can take a historic ship to Enkhuizen and return by regular train to Hoorn. This is known as the historic round trip.
Every Saturday, a large market is held in Hoorn’s city center, where you can find everything from flowers to phone cases and from freshly roasted nuts to fresh fruits and vegetables.
Every year in August, Hoorn hosts one of the largest fairs in the country! A large part of the city center is closed to make way for the many attractions. The fair runs through the shopping streets and ends at ‘Het Park,’ the city’s theater located by the IJsselmeer. Between October and March, the WestFries skating rink is open, where you can enjoy ice skating with the whole family.
